FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you typically work with?

Outside of regularly working with survivors, therapists, and advocates, those who find success in our work together are ready to establish a path forward despite existing in a society that prioritizes individualism and profit. They have described me as attuned, genuine, and open-minded. They are most likely looking for support through life's challenges or addressing harmful experiences in a way that is more adaptive for their life. A therapist who specializes in grief and  trauma that is systemic, vicarious, complex, and/or on-going is important to them. They seek healthcare professionals with an understanding of the ways the political is personal and how it impacts biopsychosocial health.  As a non-pathologizing provider, diagnoses will only be used when required and with your permission. This is a space where a filter is not required, where your wins are celebrated, and you can reclaim your agency.

How long will we work together?

A few factors dictate how long we will work together. For some, they only want consultation or therapy for a specific amount of time. There are times where insurance changes, which could impact how and when we work together. I have had conversations about people outgrowing their therapist or consultant. Sometimes schedules get in the way. If at anytime someone feels like we are no longer a match, they may choose to end services. â€‹

What is it like to work with you?

My approach uses a lens of radical honesty, humor, Relational-cultural theory (RCT), and the AIP (Adaptive Information Processing) model. We will work on incorporating community, culture, and ability into your care so you are more successful when releasing physical and emotional tensions.

Being someone with lived experience means I am willing to offer this, with your consent and when appropriate, to normalize the human experience and shift dynamics in oppressive systems. Finding supportive resources will be part of our work together, because my lived experience does not translate into being an expert on your situation or your only source of information. We will work together as you challenge your comfort zones and begin to realize you could and can trust yourself. There's no expectation for anyone who works with me to show up perfectly or perform.

What have other people wanted to know before working with you?

Recently, people have asked where I stand politically and I am always on the side of human rights. Legislatively, I participate on subjects addressing gender based violence, foster care, as well as food and housing insecurity. I also support the Land Back movement and speak out about genocide. We do not have to have the same views or opinions for me to treat you with dignity, respect, and facilitate reprocessing trauma, but you need to be where YOU feel comfortable.

When I'm not in the office, I can be found living a small, private life while cherishing moments with my chosen family and friends; near and far. Playing in the dirt, volunteering, dancing troubles away, listening to The Ink Spots, Buckethead or Missy Elliot, and finding stillness in chaos are current interests of mine.

Those who work with me can manage their schedule online and traditional western calendars are not used to dictate schedules. If you think we could be a good match feel free to reach out and let's taco 'bout it. If we have collaborated in the past, reach out anytime to check availability.
