FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you typically work with?

I work with those who are ready to establish a path forward despite existing in a society that prioritizes individualism and profit. They are most likely looking for support through challenges, on-going consultation, or to reprocess harmful experiences in a way that is more adaptive. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in rage, grief, liberation, and trauma (systemic, vicarious, complex, and/or on-going) is important to those who work with me. They seek healthcare professionals with an understanding of the ways laws, racism, internal processes, and implicit bias impact biopsychosocial health.
One of the things that drew me to private practice is those who are looking for consultation or therapy get to choose who they work with instead of being assigned to someone who isn't a match or will leave the organization soon, resulting in starting over, delays, or quitting.
Because therapy and consultation are such personal spaces, where you are being asked to trust a stranger, I share a bit about me and the practice I run. Sharing this information means you get to make a more informed choice about part of your healthcare. Organizations I gave my time to in the past denied me the ability to utilize my identities or experience in my work, creating a whitewashed experience that doesn't work for anyone involved. It's the informed consent for me.

How long will we work together?

A few factors influence how long we will work together. For some, they only want consultation or therapy for a specific amount of time. There are times where insurance changes, which could impact how and when we work together. I have had conversations about people outgrowing their therapist or consultant as a natural outcome. Sometimes schedules get in the way and it's time for a change. As always, if at anytime someone feels like we are no longer a match, they may choose to end services. There are other reasons, too, and I'm here to talk through whatever it means for you.

What is it like to work with you?

Those who find success in our work together are ready to establish a path forward despite existing in a society that prioritizes individualism and profit. They are most likely looking for support through challenges, on-going consultation, or to reprocess harmful experiences in a way that is more adaptive. They are committed to the work and rest. You can explore ways to respond and interact with your world in this confidential space. A space where we can discuss how supremacy culture impacts mental and physical health, as well as ways to navigate systems built without your success in mind.

We will work on incorporating community, culture, and ability into your care so you are more successful when releasing physical and emotional tensions. Understanding the importance of relationships and their impact on health means I bring that, along with my real self, into the working space and focus on how we can work together.

I am devoted to the success of those I work with. Because of this, I show up for my own suffering, imperfectly practice what I teach, and learn from colleagues who are not like me and support human rights.

Being someone with lived experience means I am willing to offer this when appropriate, to normalize the human experience and shift dynamics in oppressive systems. Finding supportive resources will be part of our work together, because my lived experience does not translate into being an expert on your situation or your only source of information. We will work together as you challenge your comfort zones and begin to realize you could and can trust yourself. There's no expectation for anyone who works with me to show up perfectly or perform.

What have other people wanted to know before working with you?

Recently, people have asked where I stand politically and I am always on the side of human rights. We do not have to have the same views or opinions for me to treat you with dignity, respect, and facilitate reprocessing trauma, but you need to be where YOU feel comfortable. Legislatively, I participate on subjects addressing IPV stalking & gender based violence, foster care, as well as food and housing insecurity. I also support the Land Back movement and speak out about genocide.

When I'm not in the office, I can be found living a small, contemplative life while cherishing moments with my chosen family and friends; near and far. Originally from the stolen lands of the Choctaw (Mississippi), I am white-bodied, NDGQ, have lived experience, and am a disabled Army veteran. I am fond of playing in the dirt, volunteering, dancing, reading, and finding stillness in chaos.

Hours vary by season and my location. Those who work with me can manage their schedule online and traditional western calendars are not used to dictate schedules. If you think we could be a good match let's taco 'bout it. If we have collaborated in the past, reach out anytime to check availability.
